Before Dying

As the child's prayer says, "If I should die before I wake..."
Contemplating this beautiful petition, I imagine wishes,
hopes, preferences, desires and dreams which would come
true before my demise. Each one of us would name different
incidents, so mine might read something like these..........

...Help me to find Mr. Shackelford so I can repay him the
five dollars I borrowed back in 1963...

...Allow me to apologize to those I offended, especially the
ones I enjoyed so much...

...Give me the strength and kindness to forgive my parent
for naming me, Floyd...

...Hope that "She" didn't hate me for long after that night
when I promised to marry her, afterward..,

...Dying to know if the school bully eve found out who let
his big dog out of the yard, taking over a week to find...

...Wanting to see my mother, again, just long enough to
tell her what a blessed cook she was feeding six kids...

...I could make up a long list of the times I mildly wronged
my wife of over 60 years, but she would never read it...

...Have the time to locate those good and patient persons
who gave me help and good advice needed very badly....

..Back to the work place to tell my boss that he lost money
to under paid employees because he took too much salary...

...Share passion once more with a younger or older woman
before the curtain comes down on that part of my show!

Bill, may all your good wishes come true...and may you spend
the next 50 years or so with the younger or older woman of your
choice. -gene.

This poem is very thought provoking.
It really makes me think about what I should be doing daily.

Good list. It's something I should contemplate.

Sir Bill, you have once again made common sense into an art form.

The other day on the news they were interviewing a gentleman that was 101 years old and the young reporter asked him what was his secret for living so long. The old gent smiled and simply said... breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out. He repeated these words several more times, then said, you keep doing that and before long you're 101 years old, just like me. More common sense.

Cheers, wishing you good health,
Dan
