Today I watched
The red bud unbud
Unfold its crinkled flower
Disdained with purple petal wine
The gray of branch and twig
To accept the draping summer wig
Of green that
Is the weeping willow's dress.
Cherry tree leaves
Are winking green
At me -
Tiny flickers of promise
Of what they in May will be.
However many times repeated
This costume show
Plays to those who know
Talent when they see it,
No matter when or where,
Or how often seen.
Since winter comes between
Fall and springtime's sheen
Life's new birth
Is most of a year's worth.
