I smiled as I sat down
for the Wedding Breakfast
opposite him
at the candlelit table
late last night
Precisely turned out in
crisp white colours
and pristine dog-tooth jacket,
he had the appearance of
a small Irish jockey:
His eyes roaming abstractedly
across the Field
waiting for the Start
Suddenly catching sight of
his sleeves with their
baubled cufflinks,
their naked-lady motifs
caught me by surprise
It was then that
his partner joined him:
Twice his size
in height and breadth,
she eye-balled him
with her bulging cleavage -
swinging breasts barely caught
into their halter-neck
like a couple of hay nets
Later, on the dance floor,
he lurched, lunged and kicked
whilst keeping a close eye
on the competition
- But he still looked hungry,
even though his own nosebag
was right in front of him...
Bravo!! To the Hounds!!!! Salute to the game and gather for the picnic afterwards. Only you Kate could paint a delicious fete of this magnitude and only a silent viewer could give as you did the fine details of this particular afternoons delight and only a spirit could capture the heart of the creature. Absolutely beautiful piece. It is a favorite of mine now!
I visited England many times ( my sister married an Englishman from Woodhall Spa). I had the chance to see the hounds play across Lincolnshire and know that your poem has girth and blood. Most excellent again!
