No, this isn't even remotely funny... don't know what I am thinkin, really. Just awed by the enormity of the devastation of Katrina, perhaps, and resorting to the old muscular reflex. Just a scrap, a mere herring-bone from the poetry table of life, I'm afraid... after all, there are greater things to be concerned about right now. Love and prayers. Kate xx

MISSING IT

A cat stalking its prey
is intent on only one thing:
capture.

It waits in sprung-tension,
choosing when to pounce,

never knowing that
the moment to be savoured

is that airborne leap

before the realisation
of failure.

Like the way I missed
the exhilaration of the party,
stressing over the preparation before
and the spilt milk after.

A mouthful... an absolutely amazing mouthful, Kate!

After 3 reads, stopping to savor and linger in between each, I decided not to take the chance on having a "senior moment" and forget to save this one, I did that before typing a word here... Phew!

It's becoming a delicious habit for me to read you and hear myself... a kinship? soulmate? ESP? Does it need a label? Nah...

That suspended moment, after an idea and before it's set in motion... we do so often miss or forget that part of the processes in life. I take note of it, but it took your marvelous piece for me to actually have the words for it. Damned great, I'd say! You're a wonder-filled PIP! (grin) Thanks... katy xox

This is great. I especially like the last two lines. Often we enjoy the preparation before a trip and the photos afterward. But, what happened in between?!

Kate,

It brought a much needed smile from the overwhelming chaos being broadcast into our weary minds; humor is needed if we are going to be able to start healing (that, and many, many prayers). Cats are supposed to be so graceful...have you ever seen a cat fall down the stairs? I did, and it still makes me laugh when I think of it. :)

Well done, Poet! Thank you!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :)

This is symbolically metaphorical, Kate. A thought-provoking offering, particularly because of your introduction. Thank you. Love and peace to you.

I laughed at the cat missing. They have away of pretending that they don't care.

Brilliant metaphors..

yes and it's sad for those suffering
but one must perhaps step away. Stress
is such a useless thing, but who can
avoid it. Great write Kate!

This really makes you think-cats so rarely miss their mark, little devils, but when they do, they look pretty silly, don't they? Maybe we are just as silly trying to work out God's plan for us and constantly missing the mark.

outstanding metaphor and imagery ... sometimes we become so unraveled in the moment, we can fail to experience its overall effect ...

In the cat's eye, he has allready caught his prey. Perhaps this is the key. Plenty of time to muse about the loss if and when it occurs. I know the feeling of stressing over something and losing the joy that may be found. But we all seem to be in a "fight or flight" mode due to tension and anxiety these days. Fine write, Kate!!

Sometimes we do miss the point, Kate. If we learn nothing else from Katrina, let her teach us that we must sieze the day, for our future is such an unknown. In the blink of an eye, our life can change forever. We would be wise to live each moment as if it were our last. Excellent offering, Kate.
Take care,
Sherry

Those that prepare a party and clean up after it most times are glad it's over. But then some people are thrilled because preparing the party is as much fun to them as enjoying it. Go figure. Excellent write.
