Losers Leap
The cliff is high and the surf pounds on the jagged rocks below
Tides come and go through out the centuries devouring the stone
And the waves spit back the burnished sand…almost as an afterthought
Sometimes also giving up a pulverized body of a soul who died alone
Serenity Bluffs its official name but called Losers Leap by most
Each generation seems to donate at least one teen to its inventory
Some have been depressed, some angry with the world, some accidental
All though are dead when they hit the bottom, too dead to tell their story
They say their spirits wander, along the cliffs on moonless nights
You can hear them sing sweet sad laments of the lives they tore apart
Stories of cheaters and jilted hearts that lost the love they use to crave
I know the type of story it burned forever buried in a lonely grave
I go there every now and then to satisfy and quench my guilt and fear
Look down upon the devil’s teeth of stone, that’s claimed so much before
I watch the flotsam drift in the cove and the waves froth at its mouth
The fury and the rage reach out they beckon me to join her evermore
Nay, I’ll not give in or weaken; I cast a bouquet o’er the abyss
Its not yet my turn to sacrifice, not my day to placate the demon spawn
I rise up from the tiny cross where a ribbon from her hair waves goodbye to me
My tears mingle with the mist for her memories linger on and on.
Take care,
Sherry
