I have been at sea in storms and have walked the decks in foul weather gear with a life line and harness tied to me...but I always wondered about those tall ship sailors who all too often had to tie themselves to masts and hope for the best in a storm. What thoughts must have filled their heads through the night...

Poem Artwork

I will hear your voice in raging seas

When all around the tempest roars

I’ll know you are there with me

As I sail to far distant shores

When Neptune sets loose the monster

To toss my ship near on the rocky reef

Where sea serpents make their home

And the mermaids cry out in grief

I taste your last kiss on my briny lips

As my life line rope I tie to the mast

I close my eyes and give myself to God

so my thoughts of you may be my last

But then the lighthouse glows it’s bearing

Guiding us to safe harbor in the night

Just like your love always brings me home

Your loving heart my guiding light…

Fee,
A great write. I feel the love for the sea, the sadness of being away from loved-ones, the fear, the acceptance of fate, the hope, and the joy. And your message includes respect for those who go through this. Well done:)

Beauty found even in a storm, depicted as a calm repose to love....outstanding and lovely, Fee! Like Katt Williams said: "if you haters don't have enough people to hate on, feel free to hate on me!" Motivation, Fee, Motivation to push it on!

To Ivars Polis:

The only thing banal and used up is you, Ivars.

Basically, you suck. You're not a nice person. I guess that's what Latvia does to you. You have no right to write such wretched things. You don't even have anything here for the rest of us to wrench blood and bone from.

Coward. Most bullies are.

Hello Fee,

Your poem is very romantic and any lady will love to hear it - such beautiful imagery and tender love expressed! We almost felt the strong waves and the tossing seas...and the coming home to one's love! Enjoyed!

Awfully primitive, banal and trivially used up. Such writing are nothing out of the ordinary.

Wonderful imagery here, my friend, and a captivating piece. And I can somewhat relate, having almost died in a huge storm on a houseboat in the wilderness.

No one that haven't been on at least bad storm on the high seas can comprehend the truth of this poem, the fatalism of the sailors, no the fears, that make them think of God and a loved one in that moments of peril, forgetting about how their lives are at the caprice of the waves, and yet...they don't remember the last storm.
Poem wrote by a real sailor that honors the sailor of all times.
Certainly a keeper!

You brought back stark memories with this one, Fee. I was on a heavy cruiser in the Navy, a huge monster of a ship compared to those little wooden masted ships, and I rode out two storms up in the bow as Mother Sea tossed our big ship like a dog's toy. Totally frightening. Those men on the sailing ships were made of steel, for sure, and all they had was a lighthouse and iron-hard faith to bring them home. Beautifully written, Fee, as always :-)
