‘Twas a night in June ‘neath a half-full moon

Me and Willie and our old friend Jim Beam

Our guitars would twang with every note we sang

Just two outlaw boys lost in a country dream

Then Willie said oh f*** and we jumped in the truck

Willie said lets head down to my home town

Nova Scotia’s nice but there’s too much cold and ice

So soon we were hell bent and Texas bound

My old truck gave out when there was no one about

So we grabbed a box car on a midnight train

It should be smooth sailing ‘cept for a fella named Waylon

I said Willie that man’s plumb insane

But he could pick guitar like a country star

Besides your mother needs bail from the Springhill jail

And I’m sure she’s expecting her son to show

I guess in the end it was all just for the best

Waylon and Willie left that train when Amarillo came
