for all those who have faced the silence of a totally empty house where once there was joy and laughter and living...

Poem Artwork

The Thunder of silence

No voices raised in laughter,

No banter, no anger ,no joy

No television and no radio,

No music instrument or Game Boy

No running feet, no doors closing,

No shower singing nor no phone

No whispers in the background

Just the sound of me being alone

Listen close though, closer, closer

Can you hear their dripping sound?

Splash, splash,…splash, splash

As my teardrops hit the ground…

Well written, the sound of silence and the dripping pain and sadness...
My heart reaches out to you, and asks God to hold you in the palm of his hand to comfort you.

I too know, that it takes time to come to terms with the sounds of being alone...

Well penned. There is no experience so alienating as being alone, as we were designed to live in community rather than in solitude. An infant who is neither touched or held will soon die and I think this might be similar to what a person alone might be sensing, the notion that he is dieing. I've been there as you know. My heart goes out to you Fee. Love in him, J'nia

Nothing is more oppressive than coming back to an empty house that after a time, before your arrival, began giving that sweat odor that empty houses have, to tell you about the decomposition of all the things you loved.
A very strong statement my brother.

Lovely! My passion is lyrical poetry, and this one flows perfectly. My nest is empty and I felt every word of your poem.

Yes, the silence is the hardest, but sometimes necessary, too. Sometimes the noise can be worse. Loved the title of this one.

Yes I do remember the Thunder of silence Cuz. To all of a sudden lose a loved one who has lived with us for so long. Sad and tormenting but time will heal the pain and dry up our tears. Thank you for sharing. You and Deb are in my heart and every thought.

Love ya face Cuz XOXOXO, Rose

As always, dear Felix, you articulate feeling and thought so acutely and accurately that we can totally identify and share each living nouance as if your words were travelling through our own synapses from their source of inspiration. Enforced loneliness makes space and silence cavernous, whereas a chosen solitude creates a beautiful buffer zone and plateau of enlargement where our souls can be at rest, sustained and nurtured... You sure do show us the world of difference between the two in this anguished write. Heart-breaking! TY Kate xx ("the moment I wake up... before I put on my make-up, I say a little prayer for youuuuuuuuu!! :)) xx)

Sad because of our culture and how insulated we've become, cocooned in our houses and souls. Sadder still because like a previous time in our history, many have to relocate for work and leave families behind. Even sadder is the fact that as we grow older, our children leave, our parents grow old and many of our companions/siblings grow ill and leave this earth. I feel your sadness like a weight that has burdened me for the last two decades. One wonders sometimes--why am I still here? Must be some purpose that I am not privy to. Even though sad, this is a beautiful write that many can relate to, Fee. Hugs from the Blue Mountains...Lin

You are a master of writing poems that expose your soul and loneliness. The poetry is marvelous especially the ending. Knocked my socks off. You are one talented writer.

much sadness and sorrowful emotions in your words Felix -- at the window there is light, peer and imagine the things that have been -- surely joy will return to your heart as you recall those wonderful moments, now suspended in time and space -- peace and love my friend -- Jon Michael

Never having kids or anyone living with me for any appreciable time, I have had that silence my whole life, even as an only child through most of my childhood...I find it usually enjoyable but it can be, depending on the time of year, quite depressing...nonetheless you have given me an understanding of your situation...Ed
