The Preacher’s Questions

Preacher, you asked if I’m a true believer,

if the book you hold is my daily friend?

You ask if I’m prepared to meet my maker,

when Armageddon’s days come to an end?

Was I ever baptized in the holy water?

Have I let God forgive me for my sin?

Will Saint Peter call my name some day?

When over evil’s darkness Angels win?

Well friend I believe in little children and

In the book of trying to help others to get by.

I’ve an understanding with the higher power

and too the end of my life I’ll always try.

You see I’ve been baptized in the falling rain

forgiving myself for the mistakes I made

I hear the master’s voice in the wind and breeze

and I don’t think his love’s a debt to be repaid

So I thank you sir for your kindly concern

but me and God have it all worked out

I’ll say a word for you when I talk to him

in a soft voice not a raging shout…
