The Penguins Save Christmas
By: Felix L. Perry
‘Twas late on the twenty fourth day of December
The year old Grinch Jack Frost paid a nasty call
Jack dumped a ton of snow on the interstates
The weatherman predicted more was sure to fall
Skies almost black as old Jack Frost’s heart
The North winds blew all the stars out overhead
Pavements and highways turned into skating rinks
While even the bravest truckers put their rigs to bed
Little teary eyed kiddies watched at the windows
Wondering how in the world Santa would get through
The radio said skies were closed to friendly traffics
Back at the North Pole Santa Fee wondered what to do
Santa shook his weary head at his red nosed Rudolph
Sorry, old friend, even your nose can’t save this day
You see the FFA has grounded all air traffic
Christmas this year for once we’ll just have to delay
Santa’s elves gathered in the corner whispering
But old Santa Fee didn’t pay them no never mind
Nor did he see his senior elf making phone calls
Santa Fee’s teardrops made him almost blind
So the Clauses said goodnight to the little elves
Restless Santa Fee tossed and turned in bed
Nightmares of all the young sad faced children
Kept repeating sadly through his tired old head
But before the clock was even striking midnight
Outside his window there came a din and clatter
Santa jumped out of bed and ran to the window
To see what ever out there could be the matter
And what did his wondering eyes perceive but
Twelve Pittsburgh Penguins, a marvelous sight
As all his elves laughed and jumped with glee
To see the Stanley Cup rings shimmer in the night
The elves quickly harnessed up all the hockey players
As Santa smiling climbed nimbly up into his sleigh
With a jolly ho, ho, ho, they raced off down the road
With the black and gold of Sidney Crosby leading the way
…and that’s how the Penguins saved Christmas
