 Un-silent Night

By: Fee

No lights shining in the windows

Of the house across the street

Snow building on the front lawn

I wish we never had to meet

I can feel the snowflakes falling

In the street-light shadows cast

I watch alone in my lonely vigil

This will be my last loveless night

We once promised love eternal

So long ago, but just yesterday

Eternal ended just last summer

She said I’d forget her someday

In their bed I hope she was happy

I wonder if she dreamt at night

Of love we once shared together

When we held each other tight

The gun I hold has started talking

Saying more than words can say

Flash, bang, the conversations over

Un-silent night to greet the day…

Dark indeed! I gather this was suicide rather than murder.

This is eerie. A crime scene in a poem. Well done.

Your words tell a tale that is so common, Fee. Heartbreak leading one into a severe state of depression is a tough one to shake!

Love ya!

In response to your review Rebecca, I totally agree with you that in fact violence of any kind committed in the name of love, or as a crime of passion is an illness and can often be a deadly one. That being said it does happen and my poem was not to encourage or praise it, only as an image I saw in that particular picture.

What a distressing write! Speaking as someone who once argued with guns, I can honestly say that no woman, or man for that matter, is worth dying for in the name of love. That isn't love, that's an illness requiring intervention and treatment.

Rebecca
