blood seeps into thirsty earth
roots grow fat on men's dna
plants grow green from sweat
the sea swallows their bodies
with merciless hunger
sunken ships and planes
are incubators for fish
guns tilled underground
rust and seep iron
flesh is food for worms
bones dissolve into minerals
pressed into layers
the sea and soil is full of life
and every step you take
you take on sacred ground
generations of sacrifice
in unseen tombs
the flame knows their names
generations of honor
in their unknown temples
void of light
now live behind your eyes
pulse in your heartbeat
breathe from your lungs
"where am I?"-- they wonder
they are in you

The earth is sacred and the more people try to "own" it the more ridiculous they seem to become. They are trying to possess the visual and believe in the 'power' of possession but overlook the TRUE power of being One WITH the earth. It would be the same as trying to own the air as I see it. We all need it, we all breathe it, but if you hold on to one breath to long, it will eventually overcome you and find its way back into the world where it can be used properly. So is our Mother Earth.

Wow. This is amazing imagery, and a powerful subject that isn't often discussed in poetry. Wow...again! Great piece Linda, and definitely one of your best. Michelle

Fascinating... I nearly did such a write based on my Mother, who has only been buried a few weeks... so perhaps a bit "quick"... but the thoughts are there!! However, there is no way I would have expressed so much so succinctly (obviously!!) and with such rasor-sharp precision and energy. Love the lines: "generations of honor in their unknown temples void of light now live behind your eyes pulse in your heartbeat breathe from your lungs "where am I"" Great stuff, thank you. Kate xx

If we only knew how sacred and important this world, and each other are, we would allways remember all the good and try to forget all the bad and just respect each other. Great write. Pierre.

This is indeed spirtual as well as a lesson in the circle of life.
I .......today
had something happen that was on parallel to this, but somewhat more earthy.......
I feel silly writing it, since your words are so intelligent, but the irony of it all just screams out to me lol
this is terrible
my daugher had friends over for the first swim of the season....a little boy got sick and thru up.
So I said to him.......(to cheer him up) Look K, your part of the circle of life, you had macroni and cheese for lunch, the wheat comes from the earth, the cheese comes from the cows, who eat the grass, which is part of etc etc......and now you thru up on the grass, and the bugs will eat it lol
he wanted to laugh, but had a migrane at the point, so I called his mom to come pick him up.
so
ok
YOu told this in very visual write............and I saw it.
Well done..........
I figure at least I didn't sing the song from the Lion king to him

have a nice weekend lin

This is written from a breath-taking perspective, Lin. Indeed, everything is part of the one and one is part of everything. Thank you for sharing this offering. Blessings of love and peace to you,

Regis
