I find that dash is sinister
On imprint page appearing
Because it seems the ed infers
My life its end is nearing

This person knows my date of birth
(It's in my family tree)
I think she thinks it would be worth
My death to make for symmetry!

A date, a dash, a date again
Is elegance suggested!
While date and dash alone would pain
Well, that's the way *I've* guessed it!

So please, for friendship's sake,
Don't speak to me of dashes
I might hatch terminal shakes
Or even nervous rashes!

I have no current plans for dying
Too much work to see to
Don't want my lifetime swiftly flying
To please a neat freak - date dash date death - I'm dashed if I do!
