Her Childhood Valley

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hurling crescent-shaped divets,
running to the beach,
her heart pounds in anticipation
to what has washed
ashore from the
herring run.
She has arrived at the
acceptance of transformation,
what remains of her childhood
valley, the meadowlands
filled and flattened, largely
demolished by quarry machinery,
converted into gravel roadbeds.
Rediscovering her homegrounds,
she races across this meadow,
hurling past the mall and
chemical plant warehouse,
making an illegal U-turn,
sending a tailwind to a
flight of swallows whipping
past, delirious with the
pungent scent of
what has washed
ashore from the
herring run.
wow..what an interesting and descriptive write! the question comes to mind as to whether this is something that actually happened, or something you made up, but then the answer arrives from somewhere, that it doesn't matter in the least. what does matter is yoru powers of description, and the way that you employ them so effectively. a great write, poet!
So makes me think of nearby Wales here, Sage: on our way to the green and pleasant seaside holiday valleys of Pembrokeshire on the West Coast, we chug along the M4 which takes us via Port Talbot... Ah! The place where heavy seabord industrialisation stands between the Singing Green and the Briny Blue, conjuring the most surreal environment as conjured by your poetic images here. What is even more weird, perhaps, is that between the terraced back-to-back redbricks of the workers and the smoking chimneys they stoke are the manicured golf-greens of the managers whose lives are Pheonix of this dust and ash environment. I digress, but in such a bizarre landscape your top visual would neither be astounding or out of place... and the lower one is pure mystic Pembrokeshire! Reckon I've seen her off Dinas Head! :)) LOL K xx
Sage you are one of a kind. I love this poem, but I hope someday to hear you read them to me, my friend. This is so wonderful I am having trouble putting my feelings into words. Great picture, too!
You and Ed are setting the Den alight tonight with your provocative and explicit pictures...lols
Has a very heady scent of unbridled freedom and delight to this exhilirating and electric write Sage
You describe the rites of passage of the writer and the reader in a tongue twisting and alluring way, yes..a heady concoction, coupled with the anticipatory thrill of what tomorrow will bring to us, with the vast sea of possibilities and opportunities, stretching out before us master alchemist !
Keep transmuting metal into gold, dross into jewels !
Peter
