As kids we were scared half to death of the big kids who dressed like werewolves, ghost and mummies in the neighborhood.

It was late October, I was six and with my best mates A little carpet was placed on a platform with old roller skates Kids would hop on the carpet, sitting down two by two We were escorted into a dark house and someone screamed, "Boo!" Lights would light up the rooms of orange, red, and blue. BIG kids dressed up in mask covered with blood and green goo! Stringy things like spaghetti noodles were all over the place Misty water and stuff that smelly musk was sprayed onto our face Rubber hands tugged at our shirts and pull off our shoelaces We did not last long on this ride; we wanted out of this place! It was truly a "House of Horrors" and the best that I ever seen The BIG kids knew how to scare us silly in this house full of gore. We would run out quicky only to come back later FOR MORE! THE very best, and scariest, "haunted" house that I ever encountered was one put together by a family down the street. Not one so called professional enterprise has EVER terrified me to the extent that that one amateur enterprise once did!Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

You penned your vivid memory of this Halloween occasion and I can see why! I'm picturing a bunch of little boys getting the bejeebers scared out of them!! LOL!!! Great write!

This has been a fun read! We never had Halloween in Hong Kong where I grew up so we never had the chance to celebrate anything ghostly. I remember me and my siblings, together with our six cousins went to explore a lightless back path behind the street where our house was, and we each carried along a flashlight to help us see the path. Someone told us the path was haunted because a woman had committed suicide by hanging herself on one of those trees. That sounded even more exciting to us when we went exploring! Hahahaha!!! The ghosts didn't scare us, what really scared us most was the big rats that occasionally run wild when we flashed at them with our flashlights. They usually startled us and made us scream!

Glad I missed that era. Don't recall ever being scared of anything but a German Shepherd with fangs bared, coming around the house at me with no fence between. Of course someone suddenly breathing on my neck or shouting, "Boo!", would give me a start, but not any lasting scare. Well, maybe my father snapping the belt and coming for me like Freddy Krueger�
