'Twas the week before Christmas
and all through the land
the traders were hustling
for an extra few grand.
There were "greatest hits albums,
boxed set DVDs
and at bargain prices
half dead Christmas Trees.
The tables were laden
to delight greedy eyes
with bright coloured candies
and sweet sugared pies.
And leading the mayhem
with scarcely a pause,
the ad - agents darling
good old Santa Claus,
who has abandoned
his reindeer and sleigh
and roars round the world
in a big SUV
scattering gifts to every
child, woman, man,
imported from China
or distant Taiwan.
Its called globalisation,
you know it makes sense
and gives an improved
Christmas experience.
Your poem gave me a chuckle.......so very true, but its great to have another yr!
I started years ago to make my own gifts to give.
Something about getting old...more humbug creeps into your life.
ROFL
Merry to you and yours, no matter how you spell or use or celebrate it.
