Mysterious serendipitous occurrences

Enjoyment of garden’s floral abundance
occasionally leads eyes upward to encompass
overflowing balcony window boxes
trails of polished button-bright portulaca
tumble of purple wave petunia.
Rarely, casual glance wanders
just in time
to catch
iridescent pair of ruby-throated hummingbirds
in evanescent flutter.
Fleeting vibrations
whirling
exquisite
scarcely imprints on lenses
in memory
-- vanishes.
Energized agreeable exercise
-- daily walks.
Satisfaction of cool breeze, warm sun
inevitably propels feet forward to complete
bracing scenic roundabout
trails along picturesque boardwalk riverbank
terrain of lush bull-rush marshland.
Suddenly, casual glance wanders
just in time
to catch
bright Monarch Butterfly, gray-blue Heron lift off
in suspended hover.
Lingering vibrations
sustained
illusory
beneficently teases mind’s eye
with sentience
-- diminishes.
Enthusiastic reciprocal companionship
-- dog walks.
Pleasure of creature’s eager curiosity
invariably tugs grip onward to investigate
overgrown footpath’s bushy openings
trails fashioned by rodents’ scurrying
tumble of hillocks, wildflowers, weeded grasses.
Unexpectedly, casual glance wanders
just in time
to catch
Tawny Short-eared Owl take off
in pendulous pause.
Floating wingbeats
mothlike
ethereal
amazingly soars o’er vision’s expanse
into imagination
-- disappears.
This observer learns
to anticipate
attune to
appreciate
the small moments ordinary
of wildlife,
extraordinary
of every day life.
