why surprised?
what to do?
a Pandora’s predicament was predicted
when consequences come of war
precipitously entered into
preemptive mentality
proves questionable morality
constructed on shaky ground
every argument against, daily painfully validated
worse still, leaves other wars unfinished
real enemies more enemies
free to recover, recruit, revisit
awesome weaponry discharged
yet diabolical leaderships still at large
backlash unleashed
rogue waves of furious counter forces
inevitable karmic consequences
what now?
what next?
save face, eat crow?
hard lessons, lost allies
win old friends anew, long road to go
“know your enemy”, says wisdom’s sage Sun Tzu
“wear the shoes”, know what he needs, wants
what he would do
respect, humility, gratitude, apology
essential traits whittle hostility
else go-it-alone
no-exit road
decide what’s worth it
what one would die for
how long stay, when choose to go?
where America’s battles rightly belong.
You have tackled a very hard subject here, Helga, in an intelligent way, without seeming to preach, but instead asking the questions which many of us have been worrying about, and offering some philosophical thoughts. I like it... you could perhaps make it the first poem in a series of poems on the subject...
