I saw Al Gore on Larry King Live last night. It prompted me to write this poem and though it may not be the greatest poem ever written I pray you will take it seriously. We really do need to consider our children and theirs for if the Earth falls, so does mankind.

Poem Artwork

My name is Mother Nature and I have been around, it seems for eternity.

But lately I have been fighting for my life.  If I lose it will be the end of me.

When God created me he set up a wonderful balance to keep me stable.

Now, I fear that balance is waning and though I try to correct it I am not able.

The balance was a team effort between man and the trees.

They both have used the same air on lands on all sides of the seas.

Lately I have noticed that my trees are being cast aside.

Man has selfishly made room for bigger buildings in which to reside.

He has then found it necessary to pollute the air with fossil fuel.

He heats his home in winter and in the summer he wants it cool.

The problem with these comforts is that it has upset my atmosphere.

Once this is totally destroyed man will lose the life he holds dear.

Wake up; my friend and help me retrieve my stability.

If only you are willing to try I know you have the ability.

Let us plant more trees and let us not use dirty fuel but new technology.

If we do not create a cleaner environment there will be no need for an apology.

For our children and their children will have no life at all.

The Earth was created to sustain life but if we do not act now it will fall.

Even though our mountains are lush and green, I can remember a day when the trees were so thick you could barely walk through the mountains...they've been timbered, which I can't complain for it feeds many families here in Kentucky, but had they replanted trees after taking the timber they would be thicker today! Each time we cut one on our farm we try to plant a new one...great write my friend!
Blessings,
Joyce B.

Never mind the plant lew, just concentrate on you and yours...
What God will do he will do, he made it, he will sort it, soon.
Grace and peace be with you

There is so much sad truth in this poem, Lew. I remember a time, not so many years ago when we first moved to Texas, the landscape, north of Houston, was a beautiful forest-like area. Now, it seems as though that area has been developed to where the trees do not fill nearly the land mass they once did. Houses are built so close together that breathing room is hard and animals are losing their habitats faster than we can blink.

These are the changed times, but I wish we could change them back to the good old days. For the earth's sake and for the sake of our children and grandchildren, we need to do something now.

Thank you for this timely and informative write. Like Karla, I pray it is too late and hope that I am wrong.

An excellent, thought provoking write; however, I fear it is too late: mankind hasn't learned, and I doubt they ever will. Still and all, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Stop paper currency and coin and you will control the world. At the heart of pollution is corporate greed. Enjoyed your poem.
