Don't Call Me Ronald

Some authors use pseudonyms or nom de plumes. Some of those are difficult to deal with, like Prince's unpronounceable symbol. I, unlike Mark Twain, have chosen to use my real name as the author of my books and poetry. However, formally, I am Dr. Ronald W. Hull and informally, just Ron. Some people have a hard time with that and my last name. Even Google decides that my name must be Ronald W. Hall because apparently, nobody has a last name, Hull. By the way, I can't hold a gun, but I will fire a nasty comment across your bow if you keep abusing my name. ;-)

Don't Call Me Ronald

Don't call me, Ronald,
when Ron will do,
my given name's is too formal,
when friendship's in view.

And don't call me Donald,
because that's reserved for the Trump.
He'll never be president,
name can't climb over that hump.

And don't call me Robert,
that was my father's name.
And he wasn't Robert Hall clothiers,
or Bobby Hull hockey fame.

And don't call me Hall,
because two walls are too plain.
a ship's crafted curved ribbed walls,
gave shipbuilders my name.

And don't call me Ronnie,
for a sissy I'm not.
My aunts may call me that,
all others will get shot.

Do call me Dr. Hull,
it's an honor I earned,
through long years of education,
an accomplishment learned.

The school of hard knocks,
I've also been through,
but there's no substitute for formal study,
under great mentors famed too.

You can call me Runny,
when I wax a bit punny.
For everyone's in the money,
when they're being funny.

Humor makes the world go around,
and what's in a name and how does it sound?
A name is important; it's all you've got.
So use my name correctly, or you will be shot.

Very much enjoyed this, and the imformality of "Ron" Some people depend on titles for their ego, those who deserve titles usually don't depend on them or want them used by their friends.

Love this poem! Hull is not too strange a word for me, being a location up north, have you heard of Rod Hull and Emu :) You'll definitely want to shoot me if you look at his videos on YouTube.

So you're playing the "name" game, eh? A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but Ron's a fair game name, ain't that neat! And Hull's a "Hull" of a name, too, as far as that goes... but I better quit now before I gets the throws, ya knows!

Liked the poem, pithy and pert... for a Dr. you know you're pretty darn smert! (Ouch, that one hurt ;)

Dr. Hull,

Please do not call me 'Eddie'
It's a moniker that I'll always dread,
And do not confuse me with old Matlack,
Which is why I now call myself -'Mr. Ed.'

I don't think I have to worry about being shot by you, for I believe I have always referred to you as "Ron". But you're right: people are very particular about their name. Most people call me David; however, there are a few who call me Dave. But, I prefer David. One of my high school teachers always called me Davy, and I hated it. There was at least one other Hull at one time, for I once dated a girl whose last name was Hull. Another great job, Ron.

David

P.S. Gee, I hope my nephew, Ronnie, doesn't think people view him as being a sissy. That is what everyone I know calls him.

So Dr. Hull it is. What's your doctorate in? The only doctors I know are medical doctors and that's the worst kind. I suppose I can trust you now because you're a doctor. The best I can claim is a bachelor, so I guess ya got me beat. Definitely doesn't look good on a letterhead, but I guess I can fool a crowd of yokels in a dark alley with it sometime. Got to be a better joke than my aching back, my diabetes and my weak heart. Oh well. I definitely will spell your name well whatever prefix you add to it. Funny poem R...urrr Doctor Hull. Bob

My last name is Schafer,
with a c, one f, and one e.
But it always gets misspelled,
and it gets the bettewr of me.

Having my last name mispelled,
can become rather dull.
Why couldn't i have an easy name,
Like Dr. Ron Hull

Good one Ron,
Michael D.

As a norm, I have called you Ron,
Because it rhymes with Don,
Sometimes as well with swan,
But you are far from being a swan,
And if I wanted to call you Ronnie,
I'd be most certain to be FAR away when doing so,
But as not to drag this comment on,
I will end it here for I know not what I say...(as usual) e

Yes we are all fussy about what we dont like about us , may be a name, surely we dont like to be called about,
Ron is cool and Dr Hull is great. And anybody will love small names when they sound so good like yours do!!
In India we have all sorts of short names, some are funny and strange.eg: Mine is lalu, then there is Anu,Chintu, piglu, kiki, monu, tinku,Bittu, chonju, and our dogs are named Tommy,Danny, Laika, Caeser,Simpson,Ruby Mickie.... and so on. So have a nice smile and dont shoot !
