Kumquat

What? Kumquat?
Why me, you ask?
I ain't no tangelo,
got no class.

My line goes way back,
I'm one of a kind—original,
of the genus--citrus fruit.
Time to give my horn a toot.

Not a fart. Not a goose.
A real live citrus boost.
Wake up in the morning,
craving sour kumquat juice.

Made some of the oldest wine,
why should I beg, whine?
Cuz I get no respect,
At the checkout line.

Ain't got no GMOs,
in my blood. Come to think of it,
no blood, since the great flood.

So you are looking,
for a sour tasty exotic treat,
come, come a kumquating,
down my street.

Hey, think I just invented,
a new dance craze.
Just taste my meat,
and give me praise.

Please?

I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER TASTED A KUMQUAT, RON. BUT IT SOUNDS GREAT BECAUSE I LIKE SOUR AND SWEET TOGETHER. NEXT TIME WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES I WILL TRY ONE. THANKS FOR THIS SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Clever and fun romp through an esoteric fruit to most. But, you're right. A good organic kumquat juice is a real wake up for slow to get started people of morning sluggishness.

Kumquat, like all other fruits,
it's serving its purpose, they say it's good in candy.
And who knows if the world would be the same without?
Thanks for sharing, Ron!

This irked a bemused smile form me for sure. I love the suggestive fruity stealthy metaphors & innuendos. The poem did as promised in elevating my mood from perhaps a dried-up kumquat to one with a hint of a dribble... Alas!I come grinning after THIS party!

The closest I've come to tasting a kumquat was when someone called me their "little kumquat." Now I think of them as short, stout little fruit. Enjoyed! Rebecca

Come on, Baby; let's do the kumquat...

Yeah. That could be a new dance, Ron. Lol!
Cleverly concocted as usual.
Thank you for the smiles.

Love and peace,

Regis

I've not ate a kumquat, but many years ago I used to frequent a bar where one of the drinks ingredients used kumquat juice. If I remember right the bartender used kumquat juice, lime and vodka or some such mixture like that. Never trust an old memory unless you write it down. Please don't quote me. A pretty good humorous poem. Bob

Piquant humor with lingering afterthought: just the way you wrote it, Ron. Worth your toast and, I hope, mine in return!

Well, Ron, I decided to read this poem kumquat may...and...may I say it?...wasn't at all disappointed by the fruits of your poetic labor. In fact, my Chinese wife has several varieties (including the round ones and the oblong ones that are slightly more bitter) in our back yard from which she makes drop-dead Kumquat jams & chutneys.

I think I'll have a slice of bread with some Kumquat jam on it now, matter of fact, as I reread your brief tome to the delightful Kumquat.

So... what I see in the subtext: Inviting people to get out of their numbing routines, break down the walls around them, expand their horizons of creativity, make a new friend, and try something new. Dragon fruit, Persimmon, Loquat, Jackfruit, Lychee, Ugli fruit, Passion fruit, Gooseberry, Longan, Guava, Jujube, Pomelo, Pomegranate, and your Kumquat, though all yummy, remain mysteries to many. Funny stuff. r

It's been awhile,
since I've had a kumquat.
But after reading your delicious poem,
I think that a kumquat would hit the spot.

love the taste of lime, so why not kumquat?

I'd love to "kumquat" down your street before I'd look for something sweet!

Love ya!
