Throughout human history, viral plagues and pandemics kept the human population in check. But, during the twentieth century, advances in medicine have saved people from these scourges. As a result, people are living longer and those with deadly diseases are being saved. With a worldwide population now predicted to be 10 billion people by midcentury with great concern about feeding everyone, a pandemic reducing the overall human population to 5 billion people would probably be a good thing for everyone who survived. I know this is a perverse idea, but that's what poets do. We think of things in new and novel ways. We don't have to be scientifically, religiously or politically correct.

Why do we have to be two-faced? Saving all the immune weak few? Why do we consider human life the best? saving all the unnecessary rest. Why don't they let you do what you do? Why can't you be selective, and take out the worst? Pop the bubble of pestilence, so full of great angst and thirst? Corona, Corona, we are counting on you, do us a great favor, with what you do. Hi Ron,

Your poem is perverse. Uggh!

These uneducated Chinese are eating raw, recently killed animals, rodents, fish, fowl and bats. The viruses have ample opportunity too jump from bird, bat or animal to bird, bat or animal and then to us!

In 2003, Chinese folks stabbed to death the doctor who complained about SARS, the 1st Corona virus.( per recent ny times article.)

The Chinese FDA found the plaque recently because people were eating rats!( also ny times)

They should also sell live animals in a distant, separate location from raw or cooked food.

The Chinese government has much work to do in their own land. Education, healthy food, infrastructure, housing and transportation are just a few that come to mind. They need all the help possible from their citizens. They should accept and highly value that aid.

I hope and pray scientists are successful again!

Humans are a scourge to Mother Nature and she will fight back...looks like she is doing that very thing right now. George Carlin said that this earth will always be O.K. and that she will shake us off like a bunch of fleas if she needs to. Write on, my friend!

I guess the problem is that the virus isn't "selective" and doesn't "take the worst" or "the aged" (that's me!) . On the contrary, something else may happen, and then where would we be.

I already think we do enough damage through war and major cataclysms. I wouldn't wish suffering and viral death on anyone.

Nice piece of satire in this write. If disease doesn't reduce the population, there's always war, and we humans are excellent at that.
