Most Important Words

My thoughts ran rampant filling time,

As I pondered the importance of words,

And the responsibility I feel to not just fill up space,

But to say something of value instead.

My first thought was that “No”,

Could surely be an important word,

But soon I realized the negativity of such,

And I reversed my thinking post haste.

So, “Yes” is the single most important word,

Which can fill our lives with abundance,

For we should say, ”yes” to life and knowledge,

And to beauty and love and joy.

Then the two most important words, I think,

Are, “I Promise”, don’t you agree?

For in those words lie such responsibility,

To follow through and be honorable.

And, "Thank You", such essential words,

That remind us to show appreciation

And finally, the power packed three,

So carelessly thrown about.

“I love you”, speaks volumes and implies such depth,

That to truly understand them evokes much emotion.

So, the idea that words hold great power,

And can change people, history and lives,

Is an idea that I will hold true to,

As I speak, and read and write.
