Normal

Dozens upon dozens of Holiday cookies,

Sit ready to be shipped to friends and family.

They are gaily dressed in colored sugar sprinkles,

And nuts, and jam and sweet powdered sugar too.

Just like normal, like every other year,

For though my world seems so much less than ordinary,

The every day routines so familiar in life,

Are what keep both my feet on the ground.

Seems that 'normal' in these modern days gets reconstituted regularly by the media and all those that hate what real 'normal' stands for. love, and honor, and unity, and family, and a hand extended to those in need, thinking of others higher than ourselves - hard to find these attributes anymore in this world. Your write, dear Karen, reminds that 'normal' is still alive and well.

Those that understand the magic of family will never lose their identity; and in togetherness and fraternity will accomplish the unity of spirit and the spirit of unity.

"Normal" sings to family and creativity.

A nice holiday poem that gives an image and "smell" of a wonderful busy kitchen with lots of Christmas treats. It's time for me to get out my cookie cutters, too.
