The Streets of East Cameron - Margie's Melodies

Margie's Melodies are found in Margie's birthday book, written for her 65th birthday. This one is an old Western Tune (hint:Laredo) Sing with a twang, please.

The Streets of East Cameron

As I walked down the streets of East Cameron;
As I walked down thru East Cameron one day,
I met a young cowgirl,  (or was she an old one?)
It seemed quite confusin' that September day.

I see by your big cake, today is your birthday;
I see by your candles that you're pretty old.
But why don't you look it?  Say, what is your secret?
If you tell me your secret, I'll pay you much gold.

She reckoned she'd tell me, for I could be trusted;
but ere she could say it, her candles burnt out.
"You kept me too long here;  You've ruined my birthday!"
"I'll not share my secret,"  she cried with a pout!

If you walk down the streets of East Cameron,
And meet the old cowgirl whose boots drip with wax;
She'll cut you some cake;  she'll lament her burnt candles;
But she won't share her secret -- No stranger dares ask!

man who was two grades back of her in school."
