Judy was plagued by fear of creepy, crawling things. Pity poor Judy......

NIGHTMARE ON WALNUT STREET

The long day of toil was over;
Judy's work was all complete.
She trudged up to her welcoming porch
out on West Walnut Street.
Then, to her tired eyes,
a swarm of skeeters appeared.
"Oh, no!  Not in October!"
How greatly bugs she feared!
With head ducked low and eyes closed tight,
across the porch she hurried.
Waving both hands frantically,
into the house she scurried!
The door knob felt wet and slippery,
like egg-white on her hand.
Two slugs were sticking to it;
How much more could she stand?
She held her hand out stiff and straight --
She'd cleanse it with disinfect;
But she stopped with her foot in mid-air --
beneath it a menacing insect!
This time it was a cricket --
so big and black and mean;
Judy's heart was pounding as
she stifled a frightened scream.
Her eyes darted nervously all around;
Panic rose fast inside her.
She knew her mind was in jeopardy
if she met, head-on, a spider!
The cricket had now retreated,
tho' she worried he'd come back;
And over there -- in the baseboard --
Were there two eyes in that crack?
Her arm was getting quite weary
when, at the foot of the stairs,
She gasped and she choked, because ---
          t h i s   i s
          n o    j o k e  ---
a mantis stood saying its prayers!
Judy felt her body go rigid;
She keeled over, cracking her head.
When she opened her eyes ---
to her great surprise ---
She had fallen out of her bed!

Psalm 31:24 - "Be of good courage,
and He shall strengthen your heart,
all ye that hope in the Lord."

Poor Judy, indeed. Here in the northland, the crickets are still singin, and there are spiders everywhere this year - and summer refuses to end. But any Praying Mantis, for my garden, you can always send!

Rainmaker by Susan Smith

Cold cases, Cold War relics, revenge served cold. All spark fires of biblical proportions that only a Rainmaker from heaven can quench.
