And goldfish in college dare"... well, and oysters! LOL! Seriously, though, my dearest friend, your writings are always food for thought, because they are the result of carefully nurtured thought themselves. You are informed and so inform, you learn and so teach, you keep a keen interest and a sharp "eye" on all things of life, even those, like in this writing, we usually "swallow" as they come without... a second thought (no wonder far too many of us are getting so "flabby", both of body and mind). Which makes me think that after enjoying your reflections, I always feel like... "having seconds"! ;0)

P.S. As I read and ponder on this fabulous poem, I'm reminded of a sadly very popular tv commercial in which a little girl asked her mom "where does milk come from?" and the mom, may nature forgive us, would answer through a "plastic smile": "Why, sweetheart... but the milk comes from AGROS (a national dairy company) brand new blue tetra-pack carton!"....... **deep, deep sigh**
Ah Leland , you are on point as usual, how brilliantly the whole food chain is illuminated in this interesting piece. Love is reading the works of a Master Poets', "Food For Thought." Mikii

One mother of a write--Earth. It's the portion extenders, sold to the fast food chains to cut costs that bothers me. The ignorant and poor eat them by the ton, getting more ignorant and poorer of health in the process.
This is a shining piece that I will use to show
WHAT COMPLYING WITH POETRY MEANS. "Food For Thought" feeds the mind of the soul, and nourishes the body of social-spirit.
It is always a learning privilege to read-Re-READ Your works, Poet.
You always present your sunject with expertise! You give us much to ponder and you always stick to the rhythm and rhyme, leaving me to admire how you do it Leland! Good to read you!

How true this poem is,yes, very true.I was watching on 'telly' the other night about some of the larger fish species in the food chain and of how they are endangered, almost extinct, with their food sources diminished due to climate change they need to travel to different areas outside the normal to hunt for food but it is scarce now and so soon the food chain will change as they die out and then what will happen? We are all connected in this food chain.Your poem reminds me of how fragile it is and how reliant we all are on our 'mother' Earth.A very well done poem and thank you for it.
A book of nature inspired poems and essays, written from the heart and soul of a life-long nature, animal, and wilderness lover, and dedicated to today’s children - Earth's only hope for a better tomorrow.
