Sorry everyone, but we are off again at one of our camping spots. Be back next week, miss and love all.....

Poem Artwork

        Red Coats, Blue Coats......

Red Coats, Blue Coats, battle lines drawn,
rockets burst, deadly color all around.
One to quiet down Rebel Rousers,
another to defend home and blessed ground.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

No taxation without representation,
through thirteen colonies battle cry took heed.
Old King George listened not to revelation,
instead turned inward to his own need.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

The Sons of Liberty stepped up to the podium,
meeting secretly discussing what comes next.
Thomas Paine wrote with his magic pen,
spreading like wildfire, his Common Sense text.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

This fragile land once whole, now split,
into ideological sectors, one, two, three.
Faithful to the crown, American colonists,
third group wanted no part of thee.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

Lexington, Massachusetts to Carolina shores,
each side fighting with beliefs in hand.
Francis Marion leading a cunning revolt,
nicknamed Swamp Fox for his brave stand.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

Boston, MA to the Battle of Long Island,
these once peaceful colonists now in turmoil.
Valley Forge, PA to Williamsburg, Virginia,
a plan to consider, a plot to foil.

RedCoats, Blue Coats.....

Pineapple greetings, shopkeeper flags,
no longer hung, to say open, we are here.
Yes a disheveled, rag tag group of men,
under Washington's command, no fear.

Red Coats, Blue Coats.....

Imagine being alive, being a part of,
seeing history churning, taking command.
Beginning with colonization,
and ending with a blessed sovereign land.

Wishing all a very Blessed July 4th!

Wonderful Karen. Did you read my Poem The Swamp Fox? Brigadier General Francis Marion (The Swamp Fox) was indeed very much a hero of the Revolutionary War. His attack and retreat tactics I understand are still taught to our service men and women today. General Washington standing up in the boat crossing the Delaware to give his men morale at seeing their command-in-chief. John Paul Jones, Patrick Henry and a lot more redeemed themselves throughout and gave what they could. I'm sorry I'm ranting, but our American heroes are who made this nation great for us to live in. Thank you for sharing.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and who love you, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie.

You covered much history in this poem. I always thought your history poems would be a great aid in the classrooms. (Think of the success of School House Rock.)
And RedCoats, BlueCoats later became allies - World War I, World War II - in fighting against tyranny.

Thoughts of our country's genesis finely penned and worthy of contemplation, especially in today's political climate. I see many parallels. While taking part in the festivities, we should take time to ask ourselves "What is America? What does she stand for?" Enjoy your camp-out, Karen...

Karen,

A powerfully poignant retelling of history, of patriotism at its best - will we ever see that again? I fear for our nation - well done. Stay safe, have fun camping, give the family my love -

Thank you Karen. We've seen a few documentaries on the civil war and were appalled at the starvation of so many good men. And to think, it wasn't about freeing the slaves at all. It was about raping the south of its free labor source which was used to plant, cultivate and pick cotton. The north could not compete with the south in the export of cheap cotton, so to keep the price up (always about the dollar here) the south had to go. Sad, sad, state of affairs when good men die so the rich can get richer. J'nia

Thank you for capturing the 'US' beginning. I wonder if we will ever see the likes of that generation again. Their kind has been gone too long.

You always do such a super job and create such masterpieces of history Karen when you put pen to the past. I know of know one who can write of history with such passion and exciting images. As two countries who began from one mother and diverged on own separate ways as to adulthood I look back and I can't honestly say the American way or the Canadian way was better or worst...just glad remained family.

4th of July celebrations for a "new" nation, but they forgot that there were 100 Nations on place. Kicking the Britons was fun and games, the others? certainly not.
