         Plenty to share.....

When day is done and all is quiet,
snow gently falls gracefully down.
Tiny ice crystals sparkle and shine,
in the new snow forms a crown.

Just a slight breeze, cool and brisk,
passing through, keeping all in place.
Children nestled in quilts to keep warm,
kitties hover near the old fireplace.

Taking glittering paper, ribbons, bows,
puppies playing catch me if you dare.
Yipping, yapping, running room to room,
pure unconditional love, plenty to share.

Up on the bed, behind the pillows,
slide down the back to the wood floor.
Between the legs they prance away,
heading for the Christmas tree by the front door.

Sipping hot chocolate, reading cards,
remembering what was and gifts long ago bought.
A twinkle and smile of names long forgotten,
looking around their spirits now sought.

Grandma in the kitchen up to elbows in flour,
grandpa playing cards keeping everyone at bay.
Children on the floor with crayons and books,
waiting their turn this Christmas Day.

Fireplace logs sizzling and crackling,
bright yellow and white light memories hold.
Christmas tree stands full and tall,
filled with memories now growing old.

First Christmas, first birthday, very first words,
christening baby shoes, gifts made in school.
Disappeared are the laughter, giggles, and smiles,
sweet smelling dandelions in water so cool.

Snow keeps falling, floating all about,
searching for just the right place to stop, land.
Each flake encompassing the promise of tomorrow,
reaching high up to grasp and hold God's hand.

                  To All At The Den
            From Our Home To Yours,
Wishing All A Very Merry Christmas
           and The Happiest New Year!

I like the image of the children with their coloring books, Karen. It sounds loving and secure. And of course, my home runs wild with the four-legged kids too. Not sure what they'd do to a coloring book though...lol. Hugs,
Sheila

Hi Karen,

Thank you for sharing your lovely poem. That must be your Christmas tree. I noticed that there isn't much trim at the bottom of your tree. Is that because of your pets?

I know some pets love to play dangling things that hang from the tree. I notice one of our ornaments laying under a chair far away from our tree, but that was the only one. I call our pets 'the boys'. They are older now and well behaved.

I enjoyed reading your poem.

Hope you also have a wonderful and happy Christmas and New Year.

Patty

Talking with you was my Christmas present. =] A most beautiful gift you've wrapped up and tied with a bow - memories of Christmases past, the gathering of family and friends, the scents associated with the season ... well done. The picture is gorgeous, as well.
