this is a poem I entered into the DOWNHOME MAGAZINE. It is an exceptional magazine,famous in most of North America. Telling stories of beautiful Newfoundland and of the fabulous/friendly people who live on the small island.
The Downhome Magazine,
nothing, like anything we have
ever seen.
So many memories, share our thoughts.
So many pictures, we love a lot.
All from a little book that grew.
The Downhome magazine,
growing and going to so many places,
as we read throughout the pages,
showing photos of so many faces.
Do you recognize them, maybe not,
but it sure is fun to look at the lot.
A Newfoundlander's pride it holds
between its pages.
Making us feel at home, no matter
where we are or where we may roam.
Thank you Downhome magazine, the little
book that grew, for all that you share,
showing us just how much you care.
I love this magazine too!!! I am a subscriber, and have contributed a few things to the magazine as well. The August edition features an article and a poem about my grandfather, Denis Croke, who rowed with the Outer Cove crew in 1901 and set the record 9:13 that took 80 years to beat. Thanks for this poem, it was heartfelt, from a fellow Newfie.

This is a great tribute to a Newfoundland tradition. Being a Newfoundlander is not just where you were born but a way of life, and many may travel far but that little magazine always brings them home.
Lena I have to say this poem includes the wonderful words that tell it as it is. I have been receiving the Downhome magazine for years and I feel it keeps me in touch with my beautiful home. Thank you for sharing.
