Sitting on the deck by the lake The dusky dawn matches my mood Pondering the insanity in the news As summer is taking its last breaths
I contemplate the serenity of the lake The woods around me all as usual Nature takes all in stride and rebounds A fine example to follow,if possible
Yet how can we be serene fighting terror Especially when our nation is so divided Half the people believe we must stop them Half, have no plan just shout for peace
I'm glad I didn't have to take a plane here Not for fear, but all the confusion and waiting I pray for all those who must use the airlines I pray for the world at large, it is in crisis
The Jihadists are all unified in their position The rest of the world is split into factions Somehow we'd better get it together Or lose our precious freedom forever
Oh Lord we need your intervention Your help to stop all the contention The majority of people all want peace But different paths makes war never cease ~~~
I had a plesant poem to post, but my mood changed with the news of the day.

Excellent, heart-touching write.
I agree with every line.

perhaps you were meant to look upon such beauty so that you might have the strength to lift the prayers I know you have today, Eileen. the mist matches the mood of confusion then fear then malaise that seems to be fogging our reality these days. may we all find our way to peace, Dawn
Life seems to be a contradiction especially today with your placid lake before you, nature sheding itself of one season and moving into another, while the world around you stands in fear of those who would destroy innocent life. I am absorbed in your striking words of wisdom and prayer.
Love,
Taylor
the nation is divided because the government doesn't have a plan ... there is no real unifying force from the helm, that includes all three branches of government ... since civilization is shifting, it seems this "war of faith" of "religious war" will be ongoing for a long time ... i estimate for at least 40 years ... peace has become an oxymoron ...
You've captured the uncertainty of the day, Eileen. Evil is out there in its most overt and subtle forms; and, sadly, there's no reason to think it will ever be destroyed--not with bombs or words...
Last stanza has real punch.
Peace and Blessings,
Carolyn
It's very hard to see the serenity of this beautiful lake and think all of this can be taken away so quickly when we know what happened on September 11th. Terrorism is satan's work and we must never get caught sleeping again. Too many lives...war in our living rooms right up close and getting personal... the world is going to hell in a handbasket and God awaits murderers. I am a fearless woman but fear is looming.
Susan
Dearest Eileen
You have a loving compassionate heart!
Thank you for posting this poem right now...
The world needs these prayers and we need to offer our heart and thoughts for the innocent people going about their business; simply catching planes ... instruments being turned into devishish use!
Big hugs and cups-of-teas to you (and with you)!!
Love, Suzie
I know how you feel!! Even if I didn't, I would after reading this
well-written and well-conceived poem. Isn't it a shame that a
beautiful scene like the one you so wisely chose to illustrate the
piece reminds us more of what we have lost -- are losing, may lose -- than of the serenity and joy that nature is holding out like an offering? Not putting this well. Hands hurt. Hornets stung them when I was trying to prune a big redtip. (Downside of nature, yeah.)
Better go put ice. Thank you for this thought-provoking and
timely creation. Luv 'n' Hugs, Pea
Unfortunately this will be going on for many decades, such is the hatred of these terrorists and the goal they want to achieve. If some think pulling out of the war in Iraq will solve our problems they will soon find out too late how foolish this thinking was.
Hear hear!
The news was a shock and especially since I regularly travel between the UK and the US. In spite of the topic, you've written an excellent poem as always Eileen. I am with you in your prayers.

Such pertinent words...so poignant for many. The sidewinders will bury themselves in the sand once more no doubt over here plotting new ways to terrorise and destroy innocent life. I too pray for intervention, for all our sakes...and may it be swift and final. Love Panda :)
Fortunate are those of us who can find peaceful refuge in nature. However, knowing what is going on elsewhere in the world, we cannot find peace within ourselves. Well-expressed, Eileen. Thank you. Love and peace to you,
Regis

Lord, yes they are all unified and the so-called "moderate" Muslims? I fear, no, I know, that they are not moderate at all. It is the season to hate America, I get sick of the press in this country. Thank you.
Thank God you have the boon and mercy of sojourning on the serene and tranquil Lake Tahoe, when all around Islamic Fascists are plotting our immediate and imminent downfall..
God Bless You in that beautiful part of the country..
Your mood shared by many, Eileen, at least you have the mountains to take refuge in. All we have here is hot flatland. I'm praying for our world, it needs it...and for you. Stay safe, my friend.
I believe that your mood and sentiment is equally shared by many. I can only imagine the ramifications if those pukes had been successful in their dastardly deed.
I wonder what the placebo peace-niks have to say about today. They'll probably want to send flowers!
This was so heart felt, and I loved the last strophe - like a prayer filled with wisdom.
I agree with every line.

Beautiful picture to remind us of nature's state of purity.
