Poem Artwork

As the moon cast its shadowy glance
over the canopy of trees an owl
hooted scaring the nightmouse as
it was doing its shadow dance
seeking a nocturnal supper

The mood in the bedarkened woods
seems sinister and haunting as
slithering entities make their way
through the obscure terrain while
sibilant sounds accompany them

A blanket of misty moisture makes
the foliage bleed over everything
causing cloying countenance and the
rotting wood scent that makes it so
ambient

Green eyes appear like neon orbs
hanging in space as a panther stares
between the tenebrous trees watching
for something to catch its fancy as the
darkling hours continue to unfold

In the manner of mythical midnights
reality happens, the big cats come out
to play entering into the forest foray
making sure some of the creatures
won't be back another day

What beautiful, pearcing eyes that cat has. Has an inspriationally eerie feel, but oh how it rings true the cycle of life....

Be always safe,

The prey and the predator. Life's cycle takes on a mystical quality with the setting of the sun. "Mythical midnights". Forest of dark. Green eyes fixed on your every move. Pumas at their game of selective chess. This is the stuff of a great poem. Thanks for this one. Jon Michael willey

Eileen, I caught myself tiptoeing through the darkness as the misty moisture of the foliage slapped my face, causing me pain. I continued my journey unti I saw the green eyes starring me directly in the eyes and then I ran like heck! Oh, the great descriptive images you've brought to life in this writing. This would make an interesting childrens book...I'd love to see all these fantastic images in a book for children and to see their eyes to open wide...loved every line in this poem.

Well done, the jungle of life, I felt like that wee mouse in there, but what the heck, the cat comes for us all some day, don't it. I liked the adventure of reading it> Blessings! Jasmin Horst

Yikes, and what makes this spookier, is I just clicked on your poem, it was a diffo one, yet came on to this one...

Hmmm, so many love pussy cats, yet if a cat was the size of a big doggie, i wonder if they'd be so loved.

When I watched my pussys you could see the likeness to the big cats...

the haunting feeling in this is most clever......

and i'm about to sling this laptop, cos it sure tries ones patience...
