The world is partying hearty
Tonight,
But here I sit, alone,
With my dogs and cats
Before a roaring fire,
With a crystal glass filled half-full
Of Baileys Irish Cream
And soft music playing
On the satellite radio.
In my lap rests
A small pad of paper
On which I am listing
My hopes and resolutions
For the new year;
But my mind wonders
From time to time
To the year now passing,
Remembering the many good times,
As well as the not-so-good,
And after embracing their memory
I send them on their way
With a gentle sigh
And an imaginary wave.
It's time to ring in the new,
To let go of the past
And embrace the now.
What will the new year bring?
I can hardly wait
To find out...
