On Christmas Eve
With my mind full
Of Christmases past;
So many of those
Who people my memories
Have passed on
In life and in death
And few new names
Have taken their places
In my address book,
Or in my heart.
I love everything
About Christmas,
From the food
To the carols
To even
The shopping,
And I can fill each day
With some aspect
Of Christmas celebration,
But I can't fill
The holes in my heart
Left by those
Who are
No longer here,
No matter
How much I try.
So Christmas, for me,
Remains a bittersweet holiday,
Bringing with it
Equal parts
Incandescent joy
And profound sorrow.

Christmas can be celebrated with Christian singles united as one
Christmas can be with church couples who all love God's only son
What is important is that the people gather united as a family
