The year now passing
Was not,
By any means,
The worst of
My life.
That distinction
Easily belongs
To 2014,
The likes of which
I pray never
To see
Again.
Still,
2016 was
A difficult one
For all of us
With all of its
Many deaths
Of beloved
Public figures,
And the nasty campaign
Between two polarizing
Candidates.
Therefore,
It is with guarded hope
That the year ahead
Brings healing,
At least,
To our hearts
And spirits,
And, perhaps,
A bit of prosperity
And many moments
Of love
And laughter,
So that
Twelve months hence
We have only to regret
Its passing.
You covered a lot of ground and ended with an upbeat thought. While I have long-term good thoughts about our progress, I don't see the next couple of years being very good ones while some of the threats enunciated are attempted to be carried out.
I would feel a lot better if 20 or 30,000 truckloads of slippery banana peels were delivered and dumped unceremoniously in, on, and around the Trump Tower. It's not a solution, but it would be a good start.
