Years spent mired
In mud,
Mud at my feet
And mud lobbed at me,
Covering me from
Head to toe;
I stood alone,
Not helpless
But definitely
Out numbered,
Growing ever weary
Of the struggle,
Wishing for someone
To help deflect
What rained
Through the air.
I found myself driven
Until I stood with
My back to some reeds,
And suddenly
You were there!
A strong presence
Behind me,
Coming unexpectedly out
From the grasses,
Your warmth supporting me
Like a sturdy wall
While with your hands
The mud was diverted
And your voice murmured
Soothing, encouraging, loving words
As you drew me back
To safety.
I met Jerome on a busy city street in Baltimore, Maryland, when he was forty-five years old. On that particular day, I was out and about, enjoying a much-needed day off from work.
I wanted to purchase a sukiyaki sub. I parked my car in an area of
Regis. 😊🌺🍂🍁
