These little monsters hide everywhere...sometimes in plain sight and we still don't see them.
Mischievous little dust balls, These ‘devils’ gather under the bed, In your closet and are trapped in the threads Of your carpet, escaping your view. You run your Oreck or Hoover To suck up all of them in the sunshine, But that’s when you hear the doorbell chime And know ‘mother-in-law’ has arrived. It’s time for her unwarranted inspection As she places her suitcase on the floor, Puts on white gloves while still at your door, As a slight evil grin crosses her face. She moves her finger along the window sill While you turn green at the gills. Then turns, smiles at you—her daughter-in-law-- As she walks towards you for a hug Not noticing the grodes still in the rug. You welcome her in silence, having passed the test. Wanting to ask when she’s leaving again You instead offer her a tonic with gin And cross fingers the dust balls hide during her stay.
George,
I've known mothers-in-laws like this one! My X mother-in-law kept her home super clean. It looked like a little dollhouse, everything always spotless. When she came to my home I was always afraid she was 'inspecting' with her mind. Lol All in all she was a dear lady. She lives in Heaven now, probably keeping it clean and spotless. Excellent write, George.
Great insight George! My mom-in-law did not care one twaddle about my dustballs. She was a great lady and my fav. garage sale buddy. Now my MOTHER on the other hand gave me a rash just THINKING about what she would NOT say IF she ever came over. Terrible thing really. She never came to my home even to see her granddaughter, but just the mere thought of the possibility made me physically ill just thinking it COULD happen. Now see what you started?? Loved the poem very cute.
