A light broke night
Thru window, wide
A beam of brilliance
Shone inside
There, within
The presence spoke
And roused from sleep
She, there, awoke

His beauty captured
Framed in light
Was stunning..seared
Into her sight
The angel stood
Before her bed
“I am HE”
The angel said

Honoured by this visitation
Humbled now, she bade him come
His presence like the warmth of mid-day
Luminescent as the sun

He spoke of how her life could triumph
Even more than Heaven’s Gates
For He alone held all the secrets
For merely that, He beat the fates

Intrigued, she nearly entered into
A bargain sealed by all her soul
And then she recognized the envoy
Knew the message and His goal

“Get thee hence” she ordered loudly
‘Tho lovely, thou art dreadful bane
The worst afrit to be created
Son Of Morning is thy name”

Lucifer recounted glories
Winning o’er the Gardens pair
“I alone, but rule this world.
And all of those, residing there!”

‘ Your one mistake’ the maiden stated
Arrogance above your call
T’was that alone that caused rebellion
Resulting in thy smarting fall”

“Although thy beauty duplicates
The rising sun beyond compare
Your inner spirit shines unsightly
Frighteningly, you wreak despair”

“So, get thee hence, thou awful devil
I will bare thy tauntings, not
Nor jeopardize my soul immortal
For a glory thou hast sought

I stand redeemed, am proof eternal
No need to be such high estate
Forgiveness came at such a ransom
Shouldst I forget, and seal my fate”

The radiant beauty of the spirit
Receded into nights abode
The maiden, now, quite weak and weary
Rests in peace from Satans goad

The moral is that often beauty
Represents more than it seems
One must always take with caution
So as not to lose one’s dreams

For arrogance creates the cordon
Which separates each man from Grace
Though worthy of all heavens’ blessings
T’is free will that sets our pace….
