how gracefully glide the winter swans
over the wave-less ice-edged lake
in a world where their presence belongs
such a tranquil picture they make
soft snow falls silently to the earth
and drifts high against lake banks
beguiling beauty is their worth
for winter swans we should give thanks
feathered pristine purity rivals the snow
to brighten the gray of a winter's day
cloudy sky above and dark water below
would bid the winter swans to stay
a portrait of devotion, they mate for life
serenity their norm, not known for strife
