The apartment complex in front of ours burned early yesterday evening. Eight units were totally destroyed, but thank God, there were no deaths or injuries. Keep these residents in your thoughts and prayers.
remnants of people's homes float away in smoke and ashes as they watch their dreams burn and crumble into nothingness - adults gather in a panicked knot and hold children near and watch the flames shooting higher, consuming all they own - all except the clothing on their backs, they have nothing left and the tears flow freely because they're grateful they're alive - the frenetic pace of firefighters match the hectic strobe lights piercing the night that bounce off pallid faces of the assembly of ghosts watching from the sidelines - moaning their collective grief and thanking God it wasn't them - all i can do is inhale their pain and breathe a prayer.
OUr house at the shore burned down once, fortunately we had Rufuz with us or he could have perished, we lost everything but still had each other and our lives...these folks have to remember that...sympathies to them...Ed & Rufuz
A fire in ones home whether it be an apartment, a house, or a squatters shack takes not only our place to sleep away but part of out lives as well when the possessions we love the most are destroyed. YOu captured this tragedy so well and I am glad it did not spread to you and your home. Take care.
Felix
the way you tell this story is oddly graceful (in a good way) and leaves one with many thoughts. I will lift a prayer now for the families whose homes were lost and thank God you and Karen are okay. Dawn

Karla, that was great. Sad that such tragic events inspire us most. Bless you.

I'm praying for them and give thanks that you and Karen weren't in it! Fire destroyed my home and business, so I detest what it can do.
The poem is exceptional Karla, the way you captured it!

Yes it is very sad when homes are destroyed and I will keep them in my prayers as they now venture into new unexpected paths.
What a horrible thing to have happen...and to think, if the wind had been blowing from the north, we could have been in this situation! Scary!! Homes can be replaced; lives cannot. A sobering, eye-opening write of human drama at its worst and very best; people reaching out to help those affected. There ARE good people in the world! Very well done; brava!
(((HUGS))) and much love, your twin, Karen Lynn. :( >tears <
