Death Rides The Clouds

This poem is a direct result from the pictures Eileen Waldren used on her last two poems; I believe Sherry Heim is the photographer.

All I know is, I'll have nightmares for weeks! Thanks, y'all, for the inspiration.

Poem Artwork

Lightning spitting from
its eyes, murder pulsing in
its veins, the monster

draws ever closer -
it flexes massive shoulders
and fixes me with

a dangerous glare;
it has its sights set on me;
I've waited too long ...

I smell fear rising
off of my body in waves;
I should have run when

the chance presented
itself, but no ... I stand there,
stupidly watching

death riding the back
of a hurricane, with me
as its forecast track.

(c) 2005, Karla Dorman.

Lady K,

We are such curious creatures. We crave knowledge of the incredible at our own peril. It may be our champion emotion (don't tell love).

Well penned m'lady.

Peace and (((Hugs)))

I find all of nature's fury to be facinating, though also terribly frightening. Her strength is beyond belief and there is an amazing beauty in even the most devastating of storms. I have been in a Hurricane, two tornados, raging tropical storms and a few severe and too many to count moderate earthquakes. Each is an unbelievable experience. Aside from possessing the wisdom to fear them, I find their intensity and driven force to be awe inspiring. When nature shakes her fist at us, we would be wise to heed her warnings and get out of her way. Riding a storm out and believing you will be safe in a catagory 5 hurricaine when you live below sea level where it is hunkering down are definitely two different things. These (unfortunately) are not my photos, though I really do wish I had taken them. I received them in an e-mail and the photographer was not credited there so I am unaware of who it was that did take them.
Take care,
Sherry

Very impressive and powerful verses. It is human nature, I believe to think it's a passing rain cloud until it hits. I'll never forget driving through Oklahoma toward California, and seeing a twister through my rearview mirror. This picture reminds me of it. We stayed on the rod -- had no choice -- no place to hide, and then the twister decided it would hit somewhere else. Thank you for this poem. It brought to mind something I thought forgotten.
