F I C T I O N.

Embers from the burning season
Illuminate the night,
Catching on the mesquites out back,
Sparking off heat and light
Before going out.  They look like
Meteors, falling stars,
Coming nearer from distant lands,
To land on house and car --
I shall not sleep.  A long night with
Hose and water may save
My property, or maybe not.
Time will tell.  Must be brave
As the falling stars fall faster
Now.  I pray the Lord my
Soul to keep, as this would be a
Terrible way to die.....

Bless God, it's just fiction, Karla!

Then I thought...but somewhere, it's true for someone..

This would make a good Hallmark movie!

Well, if this is fiction, you sure wrote it well.
You have me praying for your safety. That's ok, I'll do it anyway.

My #4 daughter used to pray daily that God wouldn't let anyone have any fires, especially our family.

You take care, Karla, and keep that hose handy.
Love,
Connie

Fires! Never mess with those things. They always have a mind of their own...good heavens, I just looked down and noticed Regis has said more or less the same thing: they seem to have a live of their own. Great minds, eh? :)

God Bless
Lots of love

Wild fires can indeed be terrifying, Karla. They seem to have a life of their own. Thank you for sharing. Love and peace to you,

Good description. I didn't know where you were taking me at first, but eventually it was made clear. Good job.

Am I the only one who saw humor in this? To me this is black humor at its finest. I hope I didn't miss the mark.
You write such good stuff Karla. I wish I had more time to read.

The fear of this is often so very real in lands where fires are as common in the summer as rain and my heart goes out for people who must endure this.

I easily see the embers being the troubles we face in life and the water ready garden hose our strength to deal with them.

The imagery is so rich and real here, Karla! I'm so relieved that it's only fiction. What more could a writer ask than to write something so powerful that a reader is left to wonder ... excellent poem, Karla!
Love and much respect,
