When I first saw her, she lay, stilled by death. Cancer had done this: robbed her strength, reduced her to nothing. Eyes open; unseeing, beyond the cares of this world -- and the pain.
It had been too much. We couldn't win the battle for her -- how we tried, O! How we tried. It was in vain. Tears flowed as I helped prepare her body for her husband. He
kissed her one last time, and thanked us for the excellent care we gave, walked out the door and into a life without his partner, leaving us wishing we could have done more.

Karla --
A description of love, loss and ravaging pain. Through my tears, I understand. "Walked out the door" as you say, peace no pain but for those left behind.
Cancer, took my wife five years to beat it, we are one of the lucky ones that got it discovered in time.
For those that never had a chance, our prayers.

Dear Karla, perhaps you had an angel on loan and she had completed her mission. Let us continue to believe that what we have bound on earth will be bound in the universe. PLB&G for caring and sharing such a heartfelt piece. < < < < < <HUGS>>>>>Mikii
One never forgets those who struggled so hard to live ,but in the end gave up and welcomed death. A realistic look at death, and those it affects. WELL DONE !......M
This poem hit close to home as I sit here now in a simmiliar circumstance waiting to get word that my friend Doug who has battled cancer these last months has finally passed on to a better world. He is completely sedated 24/7 now so I know it will not be much longer.
Cancer is a terrible desease and no one deserves it , but there is only so much one can do, just to be there sharing your love and care is really all you can do. very heartbreaking Karla. Rose
I am thanking God right now for lessons and life and love.It is a robber, thief, A painful reminder, cancer... You've done a wonderful work here in more ways than one. Thank you.Jen
You've penned something very close to my own memories of my Mom's passing. The looks, the lack of smiles, final resting; she was the apple of my eye and I miss her more each day because we were so close. Thanks for memory lane.
People are always wishing they could do more in a case like this. God gives us time to condition and our beloved takes the small bits of time He gives to help us move on afterwards. Life is beautiful and the steps to heaven are so much better than what we have here. We believe and that carries us along.
blessings and love,
Susan
Heartbreaking memories you pen, Karla; I'm just glad you were there for her in her final days. You were a true friend as well as a caregiver. Her memory lives on in this powerful piece; extremely well written! BRAVA!

Some memories are forever burned into our hearts and minds. There is much in this life that must be placed in God's hands - we are so incapable of so much. A somber and evocative write dear Karla that is filled with love and understanding. Blessings ...

TRUE STORY. Bella survived an abusive powerbroker father with organized crime ties, a drug-addicted mother and a physically/sexually abusive brother. Shocking & inspirational. When she couldn't cry, she tattooed a crying angel to cry for her.
A description of love, loss and ravaging pain. Through my tears, I understand. "Walked out the door" as you say, peace no pain but for those left behind.

Some memories truly last a lifetime, both the good and the bad. And I hope a very good one soon enters your heart and soul.
