Been happening for several days,
bad weather: the air, overhead,
very unstable, primed to explode:
finally does, this morning with the
arrival of two tornadoes. One
tears through the high school;
that one bad enough; the second
waits, gathering F-5 strength,
before shredding a neighborhood
nearby. Police/fire/EMTs/city
personnel stretched to the limits
of patience; sounds of sirens and
pain cut through the debris and
fears of another storm coming. I
don't see or hear anything: I am
unconscious, a victim of the wind
- red tagged for quick transport
to the hospital. Karen fares better
than me: walking wounded. It's a
scene no one wants to imagine
but must be planned for, this full-
scale disaster drill happening today.

I remember disaster drills when I was in the military. I had just come off a 12 hour night-shift, and said, "What the hell, I'll just be dead." I went to bed.

I'm with MATLACK - Why would anyone prefer to live in "Tornado Alley"?
Just like the Mudslides, Fires, and Earthquakes in Mexifornia - and the Hurricanes in Florida and the Carolinas - EVEN IF BORN THERE - I WOULD MOVE!
Here in BAWLMER, MERLYN - seems like our Chesapeake Bay on the East - is a SHIELD, or Protector - on the West, the Allegheny Mountains do a stalwart job of cutting down on storms.
Granted - we do have HUMIDITY here - but I'll take that anyday over Mom Nature's other catastrophes ...
Glad it was only a drill; hope we never experience something like this in real life! Only thing is, they could have held it in October; would have been a lot cooler! LOL Very well penned; glad we both survived to live to tell the tale! LOL
