you can't afford to lose your job
you can't afford to pay your bills
you can't afford a bite to eat
forget about getting sick
VERSE TWO
you can't afford to get insurance
you can't afford to buy new clothes
you can't afford to buy a car
your property's been foreclosed
REFRAIN
let me tell you, bein' poor ain't no fun
because it could happen to anyone
pray that it never happens to you
livin' for a spell on poverty avenue
VERSE THREE
you can't afford to ride the bus
you can't afford to go to school
you can't afford to raise your kids
those that have riches make the rules
VERSE FOUR
you can't afford toys for your kids
you can't afford some brand new shoes
you can't afford a winter coat
you'd like to hear some good news
BRIDGE
you can't afford to give up hope
you can't afford to live in fear
you can't afford to dwell on it
pray things get better this year
REFRAIN
let me tell you, bein' poor ain't no fun
because it can happen to anyone
pray that it never happens to you
livin' for a spell on poverty avenue
REPEAT AND FADE

let's keep those less fortunate in our thoughts
and prayers...while we are enjoying warm homes
and hot food, remember there are those out on
the streets...on poverty avenue.
a powerful reminder of what can happen in society today. oh, if only the congressmen would stop whining about how they don't make enough when they give themselves $100,000 raises..i wish they could live on what WE do for a month; then they'd change their tune in a HURRY!! a good rant and a great song! :) love, your twin, karen lynn. A great song, In my prayers at night I try to always remember the homeless. Thelma
and with the new budget, things will get tighter still (the poor will get poorer, and more will fall into this catagory each day; they are sending off troops, and cutting veteran benefits in the news today ... 400 lost jobs from another plant closing here... each day, that's the same. I guess I'm thankful that I was the working poor for most of my life-at least I have experience.
