~~dedicated to ER nurses everywhere,
who sometimes see more horror in one
shift than one does in a lifetime.~~
-------------------------------------------------------------
there was a very bad one that came in last night,
and when i close my eyes i can still see the sight,
the images linger--they'll cause me to lose sleep,
when i think of what i saw, i break down and weep...
the little girl who drowned in the family pool...
the teacher who was raped by someone after school...
the family who was burned in a house fire...
the young man who died when he grabbed a live wire...
the old woman who had acid thrown in her face...
and i'll never forget the young woman named grace...
the little girl who was left inside a hot van...
the couple that was caught in the collapsed bridge span...
the young lady who aborted her baby boy...
the fight for life (we lost) for firefighter roy...
the young woman who was beaten up, left for dead...
the woman who lost so much blood, my scrubs were red...
the homeless man who was shot by a teenaged punk...
the little boy who was locked up in a car trunk...
the depressed woman who jumped, wound up paralyzed...
don't forget the little girl that was circumcised...
the gay man that was brought in, bleeding (he had aids)...
the teenaged girl who was scalped, machine caught her braids...
the young executive who was stabbed in the heart...
what more could i have done...it's tearing me apart...
there was a very bad one that came in last night,
i've promised to do my best, won't give up the fight,
the images linger--they'll cause me to lose sleep,
when i remember, i sometimes break down and weep.
Oh Karla, this is the most heart wrenching poem I've read in a while.. You brought it all to life..it's so very sad...

I considered the nursing field but I knew I would not be able to walk off my job at the end of the shift. Great write and tribute to the life savers.
This was amazingly well done Karla!!

a bone-jarring tale of just what many nurses and doctors in the e.r. have to endure each and every day...vivid imagery and real feelings of the stress that they must endure each and every day. a raw and gripping write; well done, karla! (((HUGS))) and love, your twin, karen lynn. :( >tears <
A poignant story about letting go of a narcissist in your life. Have you ever been attacked FULL force by a narcissist? It's the closest thing to being stabbed over and over in the back.
God Bless
