This poem is a home run. I agree with many things already said above. Particularly being cut off by a parent.I am 49yrs and it still hurts every day. The hardest thing in sport is to hit a round ball with a round bat. The strike has to be millimetre accurate. If amputation were any longer, or shorter I feel it would lose power. As it is it is spot on. I can feel the resentment boiling as I read it.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I love how you call it a phantom pain. Anybody who has been dumped knows how much it hurts and how impossible it is to locate the source of the ache...
This is really powerful and deep too,years ago I did a poem (it is on starlite cafe) re separation being compared to amputation,yes,I felt the same too,yes,it is an awful feeling and you evoke it with this poem perfectly here.I don't know the answer to Beccky's question,is that right?I hope this poem is about the loss of a love...and not limb,though love in many cases feels the same to one's heart ,I expect.
