I have to keep my cool, and not say what I mean.
But there are times some of you make me want to scream.
It's your fault, but you blame me when something goes wrong.
I hear it day in, day out, same chapter and song.

You want the cold, hard truth, but then you lie to me.
You can't handle the truth or the reality.
The reason your kid's in the shape he is--it's you.
And you blame me for it--why don't you GET A CLUE???
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT DO YOU REALLY WANT ME TO SAY????
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your precious little girl will not live through the night.
You weren't watching her, she fell from a great height.
If you were a better Mom, she might have a chance.
Don't blame me for your unfortunate circumstance.

Your son was drinking; he should not have driven home.
He suffered head injuries, his pupils are blown.
The monitor screen is indicating flat line.
What a waste...it's only just a matter of time.

And your little "boy" thought he'd like to be a man.
Joining that gang, carrying a gun--what a sham.
He murdered someone, his home is now a jail cell.
Welcome to jail, little man, with homies from hell.

Your daughter's tiny babe is too fragile to live.
Thirteen's too young to be sexually active.
She is not an adult.  She's just a little girl.
Too many babies having babies in this world.

Your little boy was hit by a car on the street.
I tried to save him.  Wouldn't admit to defeat.
I'm so angry inside.  Can't talk to anyone.
Damn!  This is one battle I should have freaking won!

Someone's son, someone's daughter, burned in a fire.
Some more bad news someone's going to aquire.
It seems answering calls is nothing but a chore.
It's getting so I don't like my job any more.

Your teenaged son only wanted someone to care.
You were too busy to hear his cries of despair.
He reached out to you--you were nowhere to be found.
And now look where he is--he's six feet underground.

I don't look forward to going to work no more.
I'm ready to explode.  Something I can't ignore.
Everyone wonders why I am so angry and stressed.
And everyone tells me that I shouldn't feel depressed.

I'm a fireman, policeman, or E.M.T.
When things go wrong...I did what I could...don't blame me.

Karla, I was an EMT for 20 odd years, and some were mostly odd for sure, but the good times outweigh that of the bad times, for the most part...lost a brother at 12, I was there, on scene! Fortunately when my mom tried to die too, I was not there then, twas a bad year, 75'...Kate is right, burnout is a problem, even laughter can not help, have to just see it, but not see it...Peace thru Words, Ed & rufuz
