~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes the desire is lost
The longing to share has had its cost
The windows of expression are smeared with blood
And my soul is dragged through shallow mud
Sometimes the zeal to feel has met it match
And ideas revealed refuse to hatch
Inside hearts jam-packed with heavy issues
Living within a box of lead-based tissues
I read these words to a sea of faces
The ones who know of outer places
And ride upon a dream that will set me free
Accepting what can never be
Ah, yes. Some folk are really high maintenance, aren't they? Now you know why there are bachelors and bachelorettes.
This speaks on so many levels. It is risky being "out there" with our words - which can either be taken so wrongly by those who necessarily interpret them through their own grids of understanding or, conversely, being hampered in our "free" expression for fear of offending others who might necessarily be involved. Your second couplet in this way is very powerful. Likewise the box of lead-based tissues! On the positive side, there are always those whose encouragement to find personal liberation of whatever type is all part of the upward spiral. Pigs may fly? Well, if crabs can, then maybe...! :)) K xx
Ah, Jude...is this what they mean by existential angst? This reminds me of the times I would sit up on the roof. I'd look at the stars and think, 'Thats where I belong'...because nobody down here could relate. You have a lonely path, but one destined to be of real service to humanity. It'll take awhile for the rest of us to catch up with you! Patience, dear soul...
"You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em"
~ wise words of Kenny Rogers
Most of this poem gives the reader such a somber feeling
but I'm glad to see that, in the end, you're still riding dreams.
Peace,
Joseph
It is often difficult to come to grips with what we have to accept and your poem sums it up so accurately, well done, my friend.
Here is, admirably meditated, then articulated for further meditation upon, the ambivalent nature of the liberation found through and in dream. Sometimes, it comes by the awareness that possibilities are unlimited, sometimes by the acceptance of what cannot be. Superb lucidity, yet very soulful.
acceptance; something I struggle with more and more in a world gone mad (again)... if only our human social evolution didn't have to move so slowly, it would be easier to keep our hopes and dreams in focus...
well, you did it again, Sir Ace; another excellent, thought-provoking write...
Sometimes in order to move forward with our lives and dreams we have to let go of some people or things that are special to us. Some people nurture our souls and others are unable to offer us that. It has nothing to do with a lack of caring or love; it has to do with pursuing our own destiny. We must be true first to self. This is excellent poetry, Robert with a profound message which probably affects us all at some point in our lives.
Take care,
Sherry
