~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Letting go is never easy
The sound of your voice still permeates the air
And wanders through the valley
And caresses the shore
As I walk down these city streets
It refuses to detach itself from my surroundings
The sound of your voice
Has become a psychological anomaly
Filtering through the mist of my thoughts
Floundering in twilight sensations of dying visions
Moments before the dawn
It echoes across the caverns of mind
Its desire not to be forgotten
Its plea not to be forsaken
Still I know there is nothing there
But the shadow of my own defiance
Relenting to let go
Refusing to remember you left
As the moon shrouded my senses
And the sun returned into the sea
Quite a few similar poems lately - letting go is one of the hardest. But it's part of our life, whether we can accept it or not.
Very well written.
There is such a peace, such a calm gentleness to this, Jude, notwithstanding the notes of distance and loss that it sounds. Although the voice is subjective, there is a detachment, an acceptance, a growth that comes from that place where, in sailing, you're "in limbo": at that point in a turn where the sails are slack before you sheet them in in order to change direction... Quite a healthy, hopeful place to be, in fact... (trust me to sound contrary!:)) A moment of transition - and therefore, in my book, exciting! Lucid and aware, this seems to me a companion write to A Song of Light: its inverse, if you like. And there is perhaps a subliminal security in this equilibrium, too... that the voice of the oversoul/God/Muse/enigma can never be "lost", even as the sun appears to set... cos, like the sun, it will reappear, and the shadows are evidence that, even now, it remains - albeit perhaps veiled... like the moon outside my window this evening, which wears a gauzy corona although the sky is brilliantly velvet clear. The sailor in me says to chill and hold your position until the shroud has lifted... And I like the conundrum of "refusing to remember", which is soooo not the same as "choosing to forget"... The review I left two hours ago and which "failed" had me chuntering on about weather houses, but goodness knows why... so I'll leave it at that and move on... Straight on til morning, Peter... Letting go in never easy; but it is possible. This is why i am single. I am still letting go.........
Yet I feel a change coming :-)
A counselor once called it,'emotional investment.' When someone leaves your life with so much invested, it's hard to walk away.
Good write, as usual.
I was by here yesterday but couldn't stop and comment. Jude, did you edit this poem, "Refusing to remember you left" used to say something else, right? Love the poem, daddio. "Echoes" with depth and the quiet knife to the soul. ~~Nordette
Your words are proof that no one ever really goes away as long as we hold them near in our heart. Their soul will speak to ours as we touch the memory of the sensation of their nearness. Though we wear a body-form, the energy that we are knows no resistance. With a moment of release we can feel ourself one with the universe or at one with another spirit. Resistance is for the physical aspect of our being, but the spiritual has the ability to soar, unobstructed, at all times. There is a haunting quality to this piece where the spirit seems to be yielding to the pressure of the physical realm. Wonderful poetry, Robert.
Take care,
Sherry
Letting go is always hard to do...especially of someone dear and whom you can never see again.
Anyway...just rambling my own thoughts for now. Not much of a commentator.
Common sense tells us to let go. Take away our brain and our ability to feel is wiped out. Becoming a free person involves having to learn to think different. Once we change our thoughts, new feelings will emerge. Stupid kid tricks taught me this. On a go cart frame and wheels with no motor or brake controls, pushed to the top of a hill, I not thinking, "Let Go" down the hill. From then on, I knew what freedom meant, and band-aid lifestyle. Still happens from time to time, then I remember and let go! Defiance will always keep us hanging on until we stubbornly agree to let go!
LETTING GO speaks eloquently with the voice of a heart that cares little for the dictates of reason and mostly prefers the logic of its own fulfillment. Truly beautiful lines.
Dear Ace,
Aren't the lessons of this life all about letting go? It begins in the womb, where we have to let go of "Life", as we know it, in order to experience the new life that awaits us.
Letting go is never easy, but then I don't think it's suppose to be. Human flaw? No, I'm sure it's human kindness that enters the mind and heart, and retains it's right to feel.
Touching yet sad, but oh so human.
Never easy adjusting to the splitting of a hearts atoms from double stage to single. The mind, heart and body all seem to refuse to cooperate and usually it is only when a new love is found does these three agree to let go.
